About the Pymatuning Lake Association

The Pymatuning Lake Association had another fantastic year for the fishermen/women in 2012!

Our new mailing address of P.O. Box 78, Westford, PA 16134-5078.  Please make note of it and update your records accordingly.

The Pymatuning Lake Association meets the second Thursday in the months March thru November at the North Shenango Community Center on Route 285, Espyville, at 7:00 p.m.

Membership dues for an individual are $10 annually and business memberships (two representatives) are $25 annually.  Consider being a member by completing the membership form on our web site (individual / business) along with the proper payment.

Each spring the Pymatuning Lake Association sets up a table at the Linesville Fish Hatchery Open House which is held the first Saturday in April with thousands of visitors in attendance.

Each spring and fall we pick up the litter along two miles (four miles total) of Route 285 in Espyville.

Our annual Crappie Tournament that is held the first Saturday in May had 122 teams registered in 2012 with 96 of those teams weighing in their catches.  There were so many ties (22 multiple places) … that we purchased an electronic scale that weighs to the thousandth of an ounce.  The 2013 Crappie Tournament information, rules and registration form are on our web site.

Walleye Tournament participants had requested that we hold two Walleye Tournaments, and so we did … the first held the third Saturday in May 2012 had 125 teams registered and the second tournament the first Saturday in June 2012 had 60 teams registered.  The 2008 record of a 6.90 # walleye was broken in June 2013 by a 7.058 # walleye.  The 2013 Walleye Tournament information, rules and registration forms are on the web site.

We hope that you will come watch the weigh-in of the crappie and walleye at this year’s tournaments.  Seating is available in the pavilion or bring your lawn chair and enjoy the view of Pymatuning Lake.

Our habitat project of building junior cribs was held in mid-June with many volunteers from Ohio and Pennsylvania.  The rubble piles were installed the next day from the Snodgrass Boat Launch.  The cribs will be assembled at the Pymatuning State Park (OH) Cabins Boat Launch parking lot on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, starting at 8:00 a.m.

The last weekend in July we are at the Pymatuning State Park (PA) near the dam to promote the Pymatuning Lake Association at the Pymatuning Pioneer & Arts Festival’s two-day event.  Stop by and say hello.

The first full weekend in August is our Kids Free Fishing Derby.  The attendance of kids from 2 to 15 years old was not dampened by the severe weather in 2012.  It will be a two-day event on August 3 and 4.  Come see the kids in action and check out the excitement!

Each fall we solicit area businesses to advertise in the “Pymatuning Region Visitor’s Guide” which helps enable us to continue the habitat projects each year along with other park projects that we pursue.  When you stop in the advertisers’ businesses, let them know you saw their ad in our magazine.

A swing set (3 seats) was installed and the sandy beach area was raked throughout the summer and fall months in an effort to keep the vegetation from taking over the beach sand.

Late last fall we started another phase of the Espyville Boat Launch parking lot.  A rain garden area was created at the northern end of this lot to protect Pymatuning Lake by infiltrating and filtering storm water run-off.  The rain garden and the planting of native trees and plants, will improve the water quality while creating a habitat full of beauty and life where local birds and butterflies will thrive.

To contact us: by telephone 724-927-9493; or via e-mail PymaLakeAssoc@windstream.net; or mail P.O. Box 78, Westford, PA 16134-5078.  Visit our web site throughout the year and stop in at our crappie and walleye tournaments, habitat project, and Kids Free Fishing Derby to see what we are doing.

We truly appreciate ALL of our members (business and individual), volunteers, tournament sponsors, magazine advertisers and contributors – we cannot do this without you!
